Reflection Assignment 4

Q In this course we have discussed the concept of social constructionism. For example both race and gender are social constructs. Both are based in presumed biologies that lead to cultural expectations, biases, privilege, and oppression. We have come to reluctantly accept that being transgender is a legitimate challenge to the gender binary of cisgender male or female. The increased acceptance of persons like Caitlin Jenner, Janet Mock and Laith Ashley illustrate this. However, our society is more likely to dismiss the concept of a transracial identity. For example the blanket condemnation of Rachel Dolezal. I want you to think deeply about the concepts of transgender and transracial. Do you think they are both legitimate identities? If so or not, why? Make sure you support your answer. You need to be thoughtful in your response and you may need to conduct a bit of research online to help support your claims. While there is still a 200 word minimum, it will probably require more than 200 words. I look forward to reading your responses. • Points 10 • Submitting a text entry box

First of all, transgender is the sense of personal identity and gender does not correspond with their birth sex. If a person is a female in nature, she can call her self a male or change her identity as a male. There is surgery these days whereby a person can go under operation in order to change the identity. And transracial is whereby a person can assert a racial identity for themselves which differs from their birth race. For example, Rachel Dolezal is of white ancestry but now identifies as a black woman.
